About

ALMAZ is a Romanian based womenswear brand founded in 2014 by creative duo Andra Olaru & Stefana Maior.

The juxtaposition between its avant—garde designs and exquisite attention to detail brought the ALMAZ brand national and international recognition, in a fairly short amount of time.

The radical image of femininity advanced by the Romanian brand blends decadent bourgeoisie patterns with street cred aesthetics. The contradictions of the modern society, the permanent collision between tradition and consumer culture, individuality as a form or respect for privacy and independence as a supreme signifier of tolerance, minority ideologies and majority pressure — these are the ideas around which the ALMAZ brand creates collections.

The contradiction of textures (lace, leather, jeans, silk, technological material) and “the quality of the quantity” are paramount goals in the work philosophy of ALMAZ. Hence, the redefined jackets inspired by suburban ghettoes become flagship items, and the deconstructed, Baroque—influenced dresses made of silk — a symbol of sensuality — translate into a subtle, discrete manifesto for women's rights.

ALMAZ believes in the idea that the local and the global can coexist in a productive manner. Neither of these values is superior to the other — however, reality always wins. The designs signed by the team can be found in the Bucharest showroom, as well as in stores around the world (Italy, France, Germany, Hong Kong, the US).
